Helping Mothers Stay Smoke-Free Through Technology

In a feature by the New Haven Register, the MoMba Live Long app—a prototype developed by PreviewLabs for the Yale School of Medicine’s Dr. Megan Smith and her team at the Yale Child Study Center—is highlighted as a novel tool to support maternal mental health and smoking cessation.

The New Haven Register mentions the Momba Livelong app as a platform to help mothers build a community.

MoMba Live Long is a mobile app designed to help new mothers who previously smoked stay smoke-free after giving birth. It combines social networking with gamification: users connect with peers and earn rewards for remaining smoke-free. A key feature of the app is its integration with a Bluetooth carbon monoxide (CO) sensor, which allows users to measure CO levels in their breath and track their progress toward healthier behavior.

The prototype developed by PreviewLabs was used to demonstrate the feasibility of this concept and played a pivotal role in ongoing research efforts. The app is part of a broader initiative to address postpartum mental health and reduce health disparities among underserved communities.
