MGH Psychiatry News writes about SiS as a tool to help non-daily smokers combat their unhealthy habit.

While most smoking cessation solutions focus on daily smokers, Smiling Instead of Smoking is an app that helps non-daily smokers kick their unhealthy habit. It uses daily positive psychology exercises over the course of seven weeks.

The MGH Psychiatry News website covers the proof-of-concept study that compares the SiS app to other two smoking cessation materials: the National Cancer Institute’s smartphone app QuitGuide, and the National Cancer Institute’s smoking cessation brochure “Clearing the Air”.

Notably SiS participants reported higher self-efficacy in terms of their ability to abstain from smoking at the end of treatment compared to the participants in the other two control groups.
