We’re proud to share that one of our prototyping efforts has contributed to a patented innovation in surgical training. The U.S. Patent No. 9560318, titled “Surgical Skin Simulator and Method,” includes technology developed in a prototype by PreviewLabs.
The technology this patent covers helps surgeons train their skills on virtual human skin instead of training pads.
The patent describes a device used to simulate human skin during surgery training. Unlike traditional synthetic practice pads, this solution replicates the tactile response of real skin with remarkable fidelity. The result is a highly realistic training experience for medical professionals.
Our prototype supported the inventors in refining their concept by simulating various physical properties such as skin elasticity and resistance. This allowed the team to iterate rapidly and validate their approach before building physical models.
This recognition highlights the versatility of game technology in solving real-world problems, especially in healthcare. We’re excited to have played a part in the development of this tool that will enhance the training of future surgeons.
