PreviewLabs Contributed to Samsung Galaxy XR Launch Title No More Rainbows

Squido Studio announced that their VR game No More Rainbows is now available on Android XR with full hand tracking. PreviewLabs prototyped the game’s hand tracking and ported it from Meta Quest to the Samsung Galaxy XR headset.

In No More Rainbows, the player moves through arm-based movements. PreviewLabs prototyped how this would work through hand tracking.

In No More Rainbows, players control The Beast and run, climb and jump through colorful worlds using arm-based movements. Players move by swinging and reaching with their own arms. On Meta Quest, that movement relies on Touch controllers. On Android XR – Google’s operating system for headsets and smart glasses – hand tracking is the primary input method. Bringing the game to Galaxy XR meant making its core movement work without anything in the player’s hands.

PreviewLabs handled two parts of the move to Android XR:

  • Hand tracking prototype: we translated the motion controller-based movement system to natural hand gestures.
  • Platform port: we ported the game from Meta Quest to Android XR and the new Samsung Galaxy XR headset. For this, we were able to work with pre-release hardware of the headset.

This is not the first time PreviewLabs has worked with Squido Studio. For their game DigiGods, PreviewLabs built The Cube, a technical proof of concept for collaborative multiplayer physics in VR. In The Cube, two players can lift and move the same objects together. Squido used it in a demo that helped them secure CAD 1.5M from the Canada Media Fund.
