Invite Only VR Featured in a Fox 61 Report

Invite Only VR — a game developed by PreviewLabs for the XR Pediatrics team at Yale University — was featured in a news report on Fox 61.

The report explains the purpose of Invite Only VR and how it helps teens to say no.

The report talks about the rise in popularity of vaping and e-cigarettes at middle schools. The Joseph Melillo Middle School in East Haven is taking steps to raise awareness about the dangers of vaping and aims to teach students how to say no to the unhealthy habit. To do this, they will use the Invite Only VR game in their classrooms.

In Invite Only VR, the player has to navigate through various difficult peer pressure situations to learn how to say no to e-cigarettes. The game was tested in various focus groups over the past year and has been well-received by the testing groups. During this testing period, teens actually help finetune the contents of the game by suggesting specific wordings to be used. This gives the game a more authentic feel.

Coming spring, the school will let 6th grade students play the game in their classrooms. If the technology is well-liked, it opens the door for more VR-projects tackling other difficult subjects.
