It’s time to shine the spotlight on one of the key figures in the PreviewLabs team: Lorenz Delcol, Project Manager at our Belgian office. Lorenz, alongside Jerry, ensures our development team runs smoothly, delivering innovative prototypes for our clients.
Q: Hi Lorenz! Can you tell us how your journey into game development started?
A: My love for games began when I was a kid. My dad worked for Nokia and brought home discarded PCs, which gave me the chance to explore technology. I was around six years old when I first played Fallout 1. It was a bit intense for a kid, but it sparked my curiosity. Later, seeing my cousin play Fable: The Lost Chapters was a game-changer—it opened my eyes to the idea that creating games could be a career.
I even emailed Lionhead Studios at the age of 13, asking what I needed to do to join them. To my surprise, they responded with a list of skills and tools to learn. That guidance set the foundation for my journey into game development.
“Seeing someone create a virtual world where you can explore and interact—that’s what captured my imagination.”
Q: How did this passion lead you to the Digital Arts and Entertainment (DAE) program?
A: A friend introduced me to DAE, and I was blown away. It’s one of the top game development programs in the world. Their alumni work at studios like DICE and Ubisoft. Joining was a no-brainer for me. It was tough, though—only one in five students made it through the program. I was determined to be one of them.
Q: What were some key steps in your career after DAE?
A: My first major step was joining Neopica, where I worked on FIA European Truck Racing Championship and Hunting Simulator. At Neopica, I honed my skills as an environment and technical artist. I created environments, procedural tools, and optimized assets for performance. It was a fantastic learning experience, and I had some great mentors who helped shape my career.
“The work we do [at PreviewLabs] isn’t just about building prototypes; it’s about helping clients shape their vision and explore what’s possible, which makes every project exciting and meaningful.”
Q: How did you end up at PreviewLabs?
A: I first collaborated with Bernard and the team on a project where I handled the art while PreviewLabs focused on programming. It was a great partnership, and we stayed in touch. When the opportunity to join as Project Manager came up, it was an easy decision. I love the variety of projects at PreviewLabs—it’s all about solving new challenges and constantly learning.

Q: What’s your advice for aspiring game developers?
A: Follow your passion. The games industry isn’t easy, but if you love what you do, you’ll stay motivated. Keep learning, experimenting, and pushing your boundaries.
